How Claddr’s fees work with Stripe Connect

Your own Stripe account, Stripe’s own fees, Claddr’s $500 monthly subscription, and the transaction fee deducted through Stripe Connect, explained in order.

Claddr runs on Stripe Connect. That shapes how money moves and how you pay for Claddr. This explainer covers who charges what, when, and where you can see it. It does not state the transaction fee rate, which is set in your agreement.

You keep your own Stripe account

Your Stripe account stays yours. You connect it to Claddr. You do not move to a new processor, and you do not hand your payments to Claddr. Customer payments go to your Stripe account, and Stripe handles your payouts.

Stripe’s fees

Stripe charges its own processing fees on your payments, and it charges them to you directly under your agreement with Stripe. Claddr does not set, change or collect Stripe’s fees. They appear in your Stripe dashboard as they would without Claddr. Your pricing with Stripe is between you and Stripe, so questions about it go to Stripe.

Claddr’s monthly subscription

Claddr costs $500 a month per site. The subscription is billed separately. It is not taken out of your sales. If you run more than one site on Claddr, each site has its own subscription.

Claddr’s transaction fee

Claddr also charges a transaction fee. It is deducted automatically from each successful charge through Stripe Connect.

The rate is set in your agreement with Claddr before you connect Stripe, so you know it before any fee is taken.

Every Claddr fee appears in your Stripe dashboard, so you can match each one to the charge it came from. Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement describes how platform fees work for connected accounts.

What is not charged

Failed payments are not charged. If a charge does not succeed, Claddr takes no transaction fee on it.

This follows from how the fee is collected. It is taken from a charge that has already succeeded, so there is nothing to take it from when a payment fails. It also means there is no separate invoice to reconcile for transaction fees.

Claddr never holds your funds

Claddr is not a payment processor. It never holds your money, and it does not pay it out. Customer payments go to your Stripe account. The transaction fee is deducted through Stripe Connect, and the subscription is billed separately. At no point does your revenue sit with Claddr.

One order, start to finish

Here is how the pieces fit together for a single order, without the rate.

  1. A customer pays for an order on your store.
  2. Stripe processes the payment into your Stripe account and charges its own processing fee under your agreement with Stripe.
  3. Claddr’s transaction fee is deducted from that charge through Stripe Connect, at the rate in your agreement.
  4. Both fees appear in your Stripe dashboard, and Stripe pays out the rest to you.

If the payment fails, Claddr charges nothing on it. Separately, once a month, you pay the $500 subscription for each site.

Where to check

Your Stripe dashboard shows your payments, Stripe’s processing fees and every Claddr transaction fee. The $500 subscription is billed separately, so it does not appear as a deduction from your payments. Between the two, you can account for every dollar Claddr charges you.

Cancelling

You can cancel any month. Your Stripe account remains your own account, with its payment history, whether or not you use Claddr.

Before you sign

Read your agreement before you connect Stripe. In particular, check:

  • The transaction fee rate it sets.
  • The sites it covers, at $500 a month each.
  • How and when a cancellation takes effect.

If anything is unclear, ask us before you connect, not after.
